You won't be sleeping in a hotel room on this trip. The accommodation is a guest room inside a working monastery in Kathmandu — a small, clean room adjacent to the monks' quarters, used by visiting practitioners and curious travellers. The name and exact location of the monastery is shared upon booking confirmation, in keeping with the monastery's preference for a low-key profile.
Mornings start early. Breakfast is taken communally — simple, vegetarian, shared. Morning puja begins around 5:30–6:00am; you're welcome to observe from the prayer hall doorway or, if invited by the head monk, to sit inside. The chanting, butter lamps, and smell of incense create an experience that a day-trip to Boudhanath cannot replicate.
The rest of Day 2 is yours. Monks have their own study schedules; most are open to conversation in the courtyard during breaks. Topics range from Buddhist philosophy to daily monastery life. Some guests spend the afternoon reading; others join a senior monk for a walking teaching. The monastery has a small library of English-language Buddhist texts.
Evenings are quiet. There is no bar. The monastery environment creates a natural digital detox — the day's rhythm defined by bells and prayers rather than notifications. Guests consistently describe this as the unexpected highlight of their Nepal trip.
All of our holidays are completely tailor-made and prices will vary based on things like when in the year you will be travelling (High season, Low season), how far in advance you book, the number of people travelling in your group, the level of accommodation you choose etc. Please click on the next tab (INQUIRY/ BOOKING) and send us your inquiry.
