The Langtang and Helambu Region lies just north of Kathmandu and treks here not particularly demanding – being relatively low altitude and short (a week to 16 days) – yet very rewarding. The Snow-capped Langtang mountains, visible from Kathmandu on a clear day, are part of the Great Himalayan chain; they hem in a valley that is amazingly scenic. Helambu comprises high wooded foothills dotted with beautiful village that boast impressive Buddhist monasteries and glacial moraines.
The Langtang and Helambu trekking trails may not be as popular as those in the Everest and Annapurna regions, but if it is a quick Himalayan gateway trek you are looking for in Nepal, then these could be your best bet. Langtang region doesn’t lack for views of spectacular snow peaks, the verdant hills of Helambu are charming with their hilltop villages and the Gosaikunda Lake that lie between the two regions are breathtakingly beautiful.
