Langtang Helambu Trek

Langtang Helambu Trek is ideal for people with less time who do not wish to travel too far from the Kathmandu Valley. Helambu is a lush region about 72 kilometers North of Kathmandu. The Helambu region, extending from north of Talamarang to the tree limit of the Gosainkunda Lake and lower slopes of Jugal Himal, has several highland Tamang and Sherpa villages and beautiful forests scattered on both sides of the Malemchi Khola.

Langtang Helambu Trek also known as Helambu Circuit Trek starts from Sundarijal, a 2 hours drive from Kathmandu. Passing through mostly forested ridges, the trail heads north, past several pretty villages including Kutunsang and Chipling, to reach Tharepati (3640m/ 11940 ft), the highest point on the trail. A steep descent through a thickly wooded slops brings you to the lovely village of Melamchigaon, with a large Gompa or Buddhist temple. In the next 2 days, you pass two other charming villages – Tarkegyang and Sermathang – both boasting large Gompas and the latter commanding the great view of the Jugal Himal peaks. The trek ends at Melamchi Pul Bazar (5-6 hours trek from Sermathang village), from where we travel to Kathmandu and it takes 3 hours drive.
