Panch Pokhari means "five lakes" in Nepali. These five glacial lakes sit at around 4,100m in the Jugal Himal range of Sindhupalchok district, east of the main Langtang area. They are sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists, and during Janai Purnima they draw pilgrims from across Nepal for ritual bathing, but for most of the year the area sees almost no outside visitors. This is one of Nepal's genuinely remote high-altitude lake destinations, distinct from better-known Gosaikunda and requiring a longer, more committed approach.
The 18-day route travels through the Sindhupalchok district from the roadhead near Chautara, climbing through traditional Tamang and Sherpa villages, dense rhododendron and oak forest, and high alpine terrain before reaching the lakes. The Jugal Himal peaks rise directly above, with views extending to the Rolwaling and Langtang ranges. The trail infrastructure is minimal in the upper sections, and carrying camping equipment or being self-sufficient is advisable for the final days before the lakes.
