The drive from the airport to Thamel — Kathmandu's main traveller district — takes 20–40 minutes depending on traffic. Hotel check-in is handled; your room is guaranteed regardless of arrival time.
The package includes 2 nights in Kathmandu with breakfast, giving you two full days to begin orienting yourself before any onward travel. On the first evening, a traditional Newari cultural dinner with live folk music and dance is included — a genuine introduction to Nepal's living culture. If you arrive with trekking plans, Day 2 is the ideal time to meet your guide, check gear, and confirm permits.
Kathmandu repays wandering. Boudhanath Stupa is 6 km northeast — reachable by taxi in 15 minutes and the best single thing to visit on your first full day. Thamel itself has cafes, bookshops and craft shops. Kathmandu Durbar Square is 10 minutes on foot from most central hotels.
