Chitwan National Park sits in Nepal's subtropical Terai, 165 km south of Kathmandu — roughly five hours by road or a 25-minute domestic flight to Bharatpur. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, it shelters 68 mammal species, 544 bird species, and the highest density of one-horned rhinoceros in Asia. This 3-day package puts you inside the park for two full nights, leaving Kathmandu in the morning and returning on Day 3.
What makes this itinerary different from a standard day-trip is time. A single day in Chitwan barely scratches the surface. Two nights let you do a canoeing trip on the Rapti River at dawn — the hour when gharial crocodiles bask and kingfishers hunt — and a guided jungle walk in the afternoon when mammals move toward the water's edge. Elephant encounter sessions at the breeding centre are included, giving you close contact with the park's resident elephants.
Royal Bengal Tiger sightings are never guaranteed anywhere in the world. Chitwan has one of Nepal's highest tiger densities, and your jungle guide will scan for pugmarks and alarm calls from spotted deer. Evening briefings at the lodge set expectations and share the day's sightings from across the park.
The drive from Kathmandu to Sauraha — the main gateway town — takes approximately five hours on the Prithvi and Mahendra Highways. Getaway Nepal arranges round-trip bus transfers, included in the package price.

October to March is the peak wildlife-viewing season. Skies are clear, trails are dry, and animals concentrate around water sources. The park partially closes from late June to mid-August during the monsoon. April and May are hot but excellent for bird-watching.
No responsible operator can guarantee a tiger sighting. Chitwan has one of the better encounter rates in South Asia due to its high tiger density. Your guide will read tracks and alarm calls to maximise your chances.
The package includes return bus transfers on the tourist bus route between Kathmandu and Sauraha, taking approximately 5 hours each way. Private vehicle upgrades are available on request.
Jeep safaris cover more ground quickly — ideal for rhino and deer sightings. Jungle walks move slowly through forest, focusing on birds, tracks, and smaller wildlife. This package includes both.
Children over 5 years old are welcome on jeep safaris. Guided jungle walks are recommended for ages 10 and above. Please mention children's ages when enquiring so we can tailor the itinerary.
