Kathmandu has seven groups of UNESCO World Heritage monuments spread across the valley. In a single well-paced day you can cover the four most significant: Pashupatinath Temple on the Bagmati River, one of the most sacred Hindu sites in Asia and still an active cremation ground; Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world and the spiritual hub of Nepal's Tibetan community; Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), an ancient hilltop complex with panoramic valley views; and Kathmandu Durbar Square, the historic palace courtyard at the city's heart.
The tour runs 6 to 7 hours with a licensed English-speaking guide and private vehicle between each site. Hotel pick-up and drop-off included. For a longer exploration of the valley's heritage, see our Kathmandu Valley tours, the Bhaktapur heritage tour, or our private day tours page.
Kathmandu Durbar Square in front of the old royal palace of the former Kathmandu Kingdom is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Swayambhunath is an ancient religious architecture atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. It is also known as the Monkey Temple as there are holy monkeys living in the north-west parts of the temple.
Boudhanath is a stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is known as Khāsti in Nepal Bhasa, Jyarung Khashor in Tibetan language or as Bauddha by speakers of Nepali.
The Pashupatinath Temple is a famous, sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Pashupatinath and is located on the banks of the Bagmati River 5 kilometres north-east of Kathmandu Valley in the eastern city of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
