Annapurna to Dolpo Trek: Across the Great Himalaya Trail Low Route

This 16-day cross-country route links two of Nepal's most distinct trekking worlds: the well-known Annapurna region and the remote Dolpo. The connecting section passes through Dhorpatan Wildlife Reserve, an area of spectacular desolate landscapes that until recently were visited mainly by blue sheep hunters. From the Jalja La at 3,386m, the full arc of the Dhaulagiri range (8,167m) and Gurja Himal (7,193m) fills the horizon in a panorama that almost no trekkers ever see.

The route follows the Great Himalaya Trail low route, Nepal's unofficial long-distance trail connecting the country east to west. This section is genuine wilderness trekking: limited infrastructure, unmarked trails in places, and a level of isolation that makes Dolpo itself feel comparatively crowded. The journey finishes in the Dolpo region, where the landscape transitions into high-altitude Tibetan plateau, Buddhist monasteries, and the remote cultures of the Phoksundo valley.

This is a route for experienced trekkers who want something genuinely off-circuit, who are comfortable in remote wilderness camping conditions, and who want views and landscapes that don't appear on standard Nepal trekking itineraries. For standalone Dolpo treks, see our Lower Dolpo Round Trek or Classic Upper Dolpo Trek.
