Hindu Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal: 8 Days from Pashupatinath to Muktinath

Nepal holds a concentration of major Hindu sacred sites that few countries outside India can match. This 8-day tour moves through the main circuit: Pashupatinath in Kathmandu, the most important Shiva temple outside India and one of the twelve jyotirlingas of the subcontinent; Guhyeshwari, the adjacent Shakti Peetha where entry is restricted to Hindus; Budhanilkantha, the largest stone-carved image of reclining Vishnu in Nepal; Manakamana, the wish-fulfilling Goddess Bhagwati reached by cable car above the Trisuli valley; Pokhara's cluster of sacred temples; and Muktinath at 3,749m in Mustang.

Muktinath is the defining destination. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams, sacred Vishnu shrines in the Vaishnav tradition, and a Moksha Kshetra, a place of liberation from the cycle of rebirth. The ritual involves bathing under all 108 cow-headed waterspouts that pour cold Himalayan snowmelt year-round, circumambulating the pagoda, and witnessing the natural eternal flame that burns simultaneously on water, a phenomenon considered among the rarest in the world. The altitude means the site feels genuinely removed from ordinary life, which is part of its spiritual power.

Getting to Muktinath means a 25-minute scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom followed by a vehicle transfer up the Kali Gandaki valley. The flights are weather-dependent and need buffer days built in. The rest of the itinerary is road-based and well-suited to senior pilgrims and families. For a tour that also includes Lumbini and combines Hindu and Buddhist sacred sites, see our 11-day Hindu Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour.

What is Guhyeshwari Temple?
