This 11-day program is structured around a real community contribution, not a performative one. Five days of the itinerary go to hands-on project work at a local Nepali school: playground maintenance, classroom painting, and direct interactive sessions with local students. Groups don't just visit a school and take photographs. They show up every morning, build relationships with local teachers and kids over multiple days, and leave with something visibly improved. That sustained engagement is what makes service learning different from a standard cultural tour.
The program opens with a day of Kathmandu's major UNESCO World Heritage sites, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Pashupatinath, giving students the cultural foundation before the project work begins. After the project week, a hill station excursion provides a mental shift and some of the best mountain views available within a day's drive of Kathmandu. The program closes with a final free morning in Kathmandu before departure.
Project assignments are confirmed with the partner organization in advance and match the skills and number of students in the group. Larger groups are divided into teams with specific responsibilities so everyone is active, not watching. Pre-trip curriculum materials covering Nepal's history, development context, and the specific community involved are available for teachers on request. For students who also want a trekking component, see our Nepal school project tour or school adventure tour.
