Everest in Comfort: 7 Days in the Khumbu, Without Roughing It

Most people don't have 14 days for Everest Base Camp. This 7-day itinerary covers what they actually come for: the flight into Lukla, the Khumbu terrain and culture, Namche Bazaar, the monastery at Thame, and the Himalayan panoramas that make this the most photographed mountain landscape on Earth. It stops at 3,440m rather than 5,364m, which means no altitude risk and no need for prior trekking experience.

The accommodation is the best available at each stopping point. In Namche Bazaar that means a mountain-view lodge room with hot water and a proper bed. The difference between this and standard teahouse trekking is not cosmetic — it determines whether you arrive at the next stage rested or depleted, which matters considerably when you're walking at altitude.

Day 1 is Kathmandu with a sightseeing tour of the main heritage sites. Day 2 is the Lukla flight and first day on the trail. Days 3-5 are the Khumbu circuit through Namche and Thame. Day 6 returns to Lukla and Kathmandu. Day 7 is departure. For those who want to go further up the valley, see our 23-day Everest Base Camp trek.

Frequently Asked Questions - Experience Everest in Comfort

How far does this trek go?
Namche Bazaar (3,440m) and Thame village in the Bhote Koshi valley. Far enough for genuine high-altitude Khumbu terrain and Sherpa culture without the extended itinerary required for Everest Base Camp.

What is the accommodation like?
Best available lodges at each stopping point in the Khumbu, selected for mountain views, clean rooms, and reliable hot water. Not standard teahouse trekking.

Is 7 days enough to experience the Everest region?
For the lower Khumbu including Namche Bazaar, Thame, and the Bhote Koshi valley, yes. Everest Base Camp itself requires 12 to 14 days minimum.

Is prior trekking experience required?
No. The maximum altitude is 3,440m and daily walking is 4 to 6 hours on established trails. Reasonable fitness is all that is needed.
