9 Day Two Parks, One Wild Nepal

Choosing between Chitwan and Bardia is, for most wildlife travelers, an unnecessary trade-off. Two Parks, One Wild Nepal is built specifically so you do not have to choose, combining Nepal’s two flagship wildlife destinations into a single 9 day journey that pairs Chitwan’s reliable infrastructure and near-certain rhino sightings with Bardia’s wilder, far less crowded tiger country.

The logic behind this pairing is straightforward. Chitwan, Nepal’s first national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984, delivers a one-horned rhino sighting on over 90 percent of safaris and the country’s most developed wildlife tourism infrastructure. Bardia, in the remote far west, holds a higher tiger density relative to its visitor numbers, having won a Mission TX2 Award in 2022 for doubling its tiger population, with 125 tigers recorded in the most recent national census. Visiting both means experiencing the full range of what Nepal’s lowland Terai region actually offers, rather than a single, necessarily partial picture.

Across the two parks you will combine jeep safari, canoe and raft river trips, guided jungle walks, and time with both the Tharu communities of Bardia and the village life around Sauraha. Wildlife covered across the full trip includes Bengal tiger, one-horned rhinoceros, wild Asian elephant, gharial and marsh mugger crocodile, Gangetic river dolphin, swamp deer, and well over 500 recorded bird species between the two parks.

This itinerary suits travelers with the time for a complete Terai wildlife journey, photographers wanting comparative access to two genuinely different habitats, and anyone planning what may be their only wildlife trip to Nepal and wanting to see the country’s full conservation story in one journey rather than half of it.
